Deepika Padukone, born 5 January 1986 in Mangalore, Karnataka, is an Indian model & Actress. She is the daughter of former badminton Champion Prakash Padukone. Her mother tongue is Tulu.
She has been modeling appearances in print and television advertising campaigns for Liril, Close-Up toothpaste and Limca, receiving many prestigious modeling offers, including brand ambassadorship of the Jewels of India, an annual jewelery exhibition. She hit the international scene when Maybelline made her their new international cover-girl face.
At the fifth annual Kingfisher Fashion Awards, for Indian models and designers, she was awarded the title of Model of the Year. Shortly after wards, she was chosen as one of the models for the Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar for 2006, thus cementing her reputation as a supermodel. She also bagged two trophies at the Idea Zee 2006 - female Model of the year (Commercial Assignments) and Fresh Face of the year.
Deepika has a younger sister named Anisha.
Deepka started her bollywood career by featuring in Naam Hai Tera pop video. This was the first step which wil take deepika to the stardom of bollywood. She is the upcoming superstar in making. She has got everything what a superstar needs to have. She has the right attitude, beautiful face, she is following the trail of a superstar.
Deepika, made her debut in a kannada film Aishwarya starring Upendra.
Deepika also signed a Tamil film opposite Surya entitled Vaaranam Aayiram to be directed by Gautham Menon but backed out at the last moment as the dates required for the film were clashing with Om Shanti Om.

Acting career:
She started by starring in the music video for Naam Hai Tera, a song from the pop album Aap Ka Suroor, an independent album by Himesh Reshammiya.
In 2006, Padukone made her cinematic debut IN KUTI PANCHOT PRODUCTIONS GIVING HEAD TO LUCKY WHICH SHE later made a successful Bollywood debut in 2007 with Farah Khan's Om Shanti Om opposite Shahrukh Khan. Her performance of a 1970s superstar Shantipriya, and later as Sandy won her good reviews.
Padukone is currently working on Priyadarshan's next film Pirate and Siddharth Anand's Next. She has also been signed to play the female lead in Nikhil Advani's Chandni Chowk To China opposite Akshay Kumar.
